What is the best album as an introduction into banjo/fiddle based fast bluegrass?
I indeed like the "duelling banjos" type speedy banjo playing...and I've also heard a couple of banjo/fiddle based bluegrass songs that perfectly rocked my world. Quite a surprise really as I like blues, rock and old rythmn and blues normally. Can anyone suggest a good album for this sort of thing? I really like the fast hillbillie folk stuff - not the perceptible slide-guitar country stuff. If it doesn't travel and make you want to jump out of your seat, I'm not interested.
I'd guide Hayseed Dixie - their albums 'Let There Be Rockgrass' and 'A Hot Piece Of Grass' are essential listening. They play bluegrass covers of rattle songs from the last few decades (by the likes of Queen, Bad Company, AC/DC, The Darkness, Van Halen) as well as a few of their own original songs. The playing on these albums is magnificent throughout. They even cover 'Duelling Banjo's' on 'A Hot Piece Of Grass'

Now I'm not a banjo better, though I don't think I'd ever recommend a Rogue instrument to anyone, whether they're a banjo player, guitarist, dobro player, etc.
However, you can go to musiciansfriend.com and read reviews by people who've old products, owned them, etc. I'd highly recommend reading reviews on musiciansfriend.com--most of them are very helpful.
