Custom Stain Your Warwick Bass?

Ok so I bought a red warwick bass guitar. I am not doolally about the color, so I want to stain it a wood color. Has anyone done anything like this with their warwick - and have any advice?

I would have in mind youd have to remove all the varnish first as it will protect the wood from the stain and make it look crap

I need photos of the body of the guitar.It won't be a problem if there're photos of the whole guitar.
