What are the best bass guitar strings for jazz

I am thriving to play bass guitar in 8th grade jazz band. I am going to play an Ibanez GSR200. Is it really very crucial what kind of strings I have? I recognize that the stock strings are always terrible, but do I need really good like, D'addario chrome flatwounds? I looked in to those, but they're $30 for four of them. I could assign that much, but I would much rather spend less on strings.

I in point of fact had the same problem, but i happen to know that elixir bass strings are really good for jazz. The only prob would be there just as expensive if not higher. If that doesn't relieve, musiciansfriend.com has a good selection of bass strings, as well as any other musical items you may need. Here's a link for bass strings.

aspire this helps. oh, and be sure to use medium or heavy strings, which are essential for jazz.

some questions about bass guitar strings?

how often should you interchange them?
what is the average price range of good quality bass strings?
what kind (gauge, type) should i get? i'm not sure...i play jazz bass and i've been playing for a smidgin over than a year and i'm pretty good.
thanks!

How often you silver your strings is sort of up to personal preference...some bassists love the bright sound of new strings, and replace their strings every couple months; other players (unusually some jazz bassists) like the sound of "dead" strings more, as it's more mellow; they wouldn't change their strings as often.

For a set of bass strings, you can probably count on to pay $30-40; some brands might be a bit more, some maybe a little less.

Some good brands to check out: D'Addario, Ernie Ball, Elixer, DR, Rotosound, Circus Elite

As for string gauge, you'll generally want a set that's somewhere in the middle - most sets of strings will give you two numbers; the first (bigger) number tells the thickness of your low E be in command (or low B if it's a 5/6-string set), and the second (smaller) number tells the thickness of your high G string (or high C if it's a 6-carcanet use set). You'll probably want a set that's of medium thickness, like 105-45 (that could also be written .105"-.045" ). If you lay out to down-tune your bass (Drop D, Drop C, etc.), you'll need thicker strings - a general rule is to add 0.005" for each half-degree you go down. So to tune down to Drop D (two steps), try a 110-50 or 115-55 set of strings.

Most bassists use roundwound strings, but some jazz bassists (and all fretless/upright bass players) use flatwounds strings - they have a much smoother, mellower enquire of.

That should answer all your questions; hope it helps you out a bit mate =)
Cheers!
