Bluegrass banjo/old-time banjo?
This is absolutely our on a limb here, but I went to a bluegrass festival a while back and they had a lot of contests. One was for the "bluegrass banjo" and one was for the "old-time banjo."
What is the disagreement?
There are no set rules here but in general bluegrass banjos have a resonator back and are played in the three finger style made famous by Earl Scruggs. Old time banjos have an uncovered back and are played with styles like frailing, drop-thumb, and clawhamer.

Is it hard to fix an old banjo?
Well, I merely reached my daily answering limit... so I figure I'll receive for a while! :)
My dad has an old banjo in the closet. It hasn't been touched for years. Can anybody give me some tips on what they call to mind a consider a perfectly good banjo 20+ years ago may need?
as for now, it's missing strings and a bridge.
also... is a bridge conscientious to install?
preheat oven to 350 degrees
commingle mixture in large bowl.
beat for 2 minutes
leave in oven for 30 minutes.
let cool on windowsill
