What cheap bluegrass banjo should a beginner buy?
I'm peculiar about learning to play the banjo, but I don't want to invest much in it just yet. Any suggestions?
Thats horrific! Banjo is a very fun instrument to learn. Amazon.com has a lot of really good deals. There are some less expensive ones, but they don't play well.
This Washburn is priced the cheapest anywhere on the internet. It's mostly $200 or more, but only $150 on Amazon.
If you do end up getting a banjo and don't think you'll get a teacher, go on YouTube and there is a person that has over 100 videos that employees you learn the banjo. Him and his dad do them personally each week. They are how I learned banjo, and they are very good teachers!

Can anyone tell me some good bluegrass pieces for banjo?
I'm philosophical of starting banjo, but really want to get it in my ear first. I'd also like to know some good cheap beginning bluegrass banjos and where to buy them
1) One of the easiest songs to learn that can unbroken good when you play it is Cripple Creek. Also, Foggy Mountain Breakdown is a relatively simple tune, even though it sounds Byzantine. Try this: http://bluegrassbanjo.org/a-d.html
You will need to install Tabview...it's free. I would strongly recommend that you buy some instructional cd's. I acceptable Bill Keith because he focuses on playing by ear and really breaks down playing technique. That's how I learned. As far as banjo, you should start with a beginner banjo in the distribute of $100 to $300. You can find one at pawn shops, garage sales, or the internet. Try www.music123.com. As you start playing control superiors, upgrade you banjo to match your playing skills. Have fun.
