In which country do you believe the accordion is one of the most respected traditional instruments?

Having grown up in Scotland where the accordion is an elemental part of the traditional music scene, it is interesting to see how it is regarded in the USA now I live here. I have heard some fabulous players from other countries - Ukraine, Norway, Finland, Bulgaria and others - but how is the thingy respected there?

Don't conscious really - but a Philadelphia, Pennsylvania Mummers Day Parade (New Year's Day) would not be the same without almost 30 string bands not having at least 2 in each gather.
My grandmother had 3 - 2 that were donated to the Ferko String Band when she passed away. I have the other. I have to sit to play it because of it's weight.
